We are seeking a compassionate Receptionist to join our team at Dougie Mac. As the first point of contact across both our Adult and Children’s hospice sites, you’ll deliver an outstanding front-of-house experience, supporting visitors, patients, families, staff, and volunteers.
Your role will typically involve working 9:00 am – 5:00 pm shifts, including one weekend in every four. You will also work one day per week at our dedicated Children and Young Adult site. Flexibility is essential, as you will help cover annual leave and occasional absence, ensuring seamless reception services across the hospice.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide an efficient, compassionate reception and telephone service
* Operate a multi-line switchboard and manage accurate message handling
* Welcome and sign in visitors, patients, and contractors, ensuring sensitive handling of all interactions
* Support and mentor voluntary receptionists, assisting the Reception Manager with rota updates
* Process incoming and outgoing post, handle monetary donations, and maintain a tidy reception area
* Collaborate with departments across the hospice, ensuring excellent internal support
About You
You’ll bring a warm, approachable manner with strong communication skills and a passion for excellent customer service. You will:
* Be experienced in dealing with the public, both face to face and by phone
* Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with empathy
* Be confident using Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook
* Motivate and support others, especially our volunteers, in a team environment
* Be adaptable and willing to work across both hospice sites, including the Children and Young Adult site one day a week
* Cover reception shifts within the service hours of 7:45 am – 8:00 pm, including occasional early or late shifts as required support shift changes or annual leave, with rotas set 4–6 weeks in advance

Salary: £22,283 per annum
Hours: 35 hours a week
