As a VDI Engineer, you will play a vital role in ensuring our virtual desktop computing environment remains secure, reliable, and optimised for performance. You will work collaboratively across our technical team to design, implement, and manage VDI solutions, enabling our workforce and partners to meet the growing demands of this national program.
Responsibilities:
• VDI Design and Optimisation: Deploy, maintain, and enhance VDI (W365) solutions to deliver seamless, high-quality end-user experiences.
• Thin Client Deployment: Establish and manage thin client build areas for efficient, scalable system rollouts.
• Operating System Deployment: Use tools such as Windows Deployment Services (WDS),Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) and Microsoft Intune to streamline OS installation and updates.
• Identity and Access Management: Administer and support Entra ID (Active Directory), including user authentication and directory synchronisation.
• Group Policy Management: Create and enforce Group Policies to ensure a secure and consistent IT environment.
• Microsoft 365 Integration: Configure and manage Microsoft 365 applications and services for optimal performance in the VDI ecosystem.
• Device Management: Leverage Microsoft Intune to enforce compliance policies and deploy applications effectively.
• Advanced Troubleshooting: Provide 2nd and 3rd line support, ensuring minimal system downtime and maximising performance.
• Documentation and Best Practices: Create and maintain detailed technical documentation and contribute to improving system processes.
Required Experience:
• Proven experience with Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop or similar platforms.
• Expertise in managing thin client build environments for streamlined deployments.
• Proficiency with WDS and MDT for operating system deployment.
• Strong knowledge of Entra ID (Active Directory) and Group Policies.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 services, including Teams, Exchange Online, and SharePoint.
• Practical knowledge of Microsoft Intune for device and application management.
• Exceptional troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve complex VDI issues effectively.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
Required Skills:
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in desktop and VDI support, with a focus on troubleshooting and resolving technical issues in complex environments.
• Relevant certifications like Microsoft Certified: Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty, Microsoft 365 Certified, or Azure Administrator Associate.
• Experience with PowerShell or other scripting tools for automation.
• Familiarity with ITIL frameworks and networking concepts relevant to VDI, such as VPNs, load balancing, and bandwidth optimisation.
