An opportunity has arisen to join the Trust Resilience Team working as a Business Support Officer. Reporting to the Head of Contingency Planning, the role will provide general business/administrative support, covering a variety of meetings and workstreams. Working with internal and external partners, the team deals with Integrated Emergency Management (IEM) matters such as risk assessment, contingency planning, validation of emergency arrangements and the design and delivery of multi‑agency training and exercises.

The post holder will work with Resilience Managers and Officers and help keep the workstreams on track. The Contingency Planning team works closely with Special Operations, the Command and Resilience Education Team, and other departments to plan for, respond to, and recover from incidents. The role will support the Trust to maintain its legislative standards as per the Civil Contingencies Act and NHS England Core Standards to ensure robust and effective processes are in place to support patient and staff safety in complex and major incidents.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for all administration duties across the Contingency Planning Team which include the management of holidays, booking of training venues, hotels, minute taking and completion of staff wages.

As a Trust‑wide, on‑call Loggist, the postholder will undertake duties as required within Standards for NHS Ambulance Service Command and Control. They will need to maintain relevant qualifications and competencies. The Loggist role can be unpredictable, and the post holder should be aware that they can be deployed across the NWAS region.

This is an excellent opportunity for the post holder to be part of a team of multiskilled staff working in a varied EPRR environment across the regional footprint of the North West Ambulance Service.

About us

North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.

Our highly skilled staff provide life‑saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed. We also provide non‑emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non‑emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.

Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.

We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non‑emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Skills (Essential)

* Ability to plan and organise work independently to support Head of Contingency Planning workload and achieve deadlines
* Ability to analyse a wide range of complex information and summarise appropriately
* Forward‑looking thinker who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions to bring new approaches to old problems
* Excellent IT skills, able to use a wide range of software packages and proficient use of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, e‑mail and internet applications
* The ability to act with discretion and understand the need for confidentiality
* The ability to use own initiative with a flexible approach to work and consistently drives for high quality service delivery
* The ability to prioritise and balance a range of competing tasks and deliver within required timescales

Qualifications and Knowledge (Essential)

* Degree level qualification and/or equivalent experience in business administration
* Knowledge of information needs at Director and Senior Manager level
* Knowledge of health economy structures and responsibilities to facilitate effective liaison
* Relevant training to maintain National Occupational Standards as Loggist e.g. UK HSA Loggist Course attendance
* Security Clearance to SC Level via the Defence Business Services National Security Vetting


Experience (Essential)

* Experience working in a similar role supporting senior managers
* Experience of preparing and compiling reports, meeting papers/ packs and action plans/ trackers
* Demonstratable experience of dealing with matters of a highly sensitive and confidential nature
* Proven experience of supporting senior level meetings and producing minutes to a high standard of accuracy within a short timescale
* Experience using office systems
