Overview
An exciting opportunity has come available for an enthusiastic, motivated Specialist Biomedical Scientist in the Special Haematology section of Blood Sciences at University Hospitals Dorset. We are looking for a Biomedical Scientist who is experienced in Antenatal Screening, Haemoglobinopathy and HbA1C testing. The post is fixed term for maternity cover. The Haematology department is part of the Blood Sciences department. The post is currently based at Poole Hospital, but the successful candidate will be working at our laboratory in the Dorset Pathology Hub in Bournemouth. The Special Haematology service is moving from Poole to Bournemouth in a phased manner and the successful candidate will be expected to assist with verification and training amongst other tasks.
The modern department offers a wide range of diagnostic testing facilities for Dorset Hospitals as well as local GP practices. The department is fully UKAS accredited and an IBMS accredited training laboratory.
Responsibilities
* Perform duties within Special Haematology, including diagnostic testing and support for chronic blood disorders.
* Assist with verification and training during the service move from Poole to Bournemouth.
* Operate relevant analysers and informatics as required (ideally Tosoh G11 analysers and WinPath Enterprise).
* Contribute to ensuring high standards of quality and accreditation compliance (UKAS and IBMS training laboratory).
Qualifications and experience
* BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent.
* HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
* Completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio (Haematology) or demonstrated equivalent proven experience at Band 6 in Special Haematology. Evidence of CPD expected at interview.
* Candidates completing their Specialist Portfolio may be considered but would start on Band 5 if unable to satisfy the Specialist BMS criteria.
Additional information
* The ideal candidate will have experience with Tosoh G11 analysers and WinPath Enterprise (ideally).
* Some services may move site this year or next; recruitment managers can answer questions at interview.
* If relocation affects mileage, this may be treated as normal commute; other changes will be managed according to relevant terms and conditions.
