Are you an experienced Environmental Health professional ready to take the next step in your career?
East Lindsey District Council is seeking a dynamic and motivated Team Leader (Commercial) to lead a specialist team delivering high-quality regulatory services across food safety, health and safety, event safety and animal welfare inspections.
This is a pivotal role where you’ll supervise a team of 9professionals, oversee complex investigations, and ensure compliance with national standards. You’ll be instrumental in shaping the Council’s approach to commercial Environmental Health, working closely with local businesses, government agencies, and community partners.
You will be working as a key person within the Environmental Health Team to help deliver this service. You will need to be prepared to deal with a wide range of premises and people, ranging from a large scale outdoor events to one of the busiest coastal area in the country.
For all of these roles every day will present a different challenge. This is not a job, which is tied to a desk and is not necessarily 9-5. You will be working with local business owners, residents and visitors to ensure that the highest possible standards are met. Where standards are not met you will need to work within the legislation to take action to formally deal with non-compliance.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage a team of Environmental Health Practitioners and technical staff
* Oversee food hygiene and health & safety inspections, sampling, and outbreak investigations
* Approve food businesses and manage the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS)
* Act as a key liaison with external agencies including the Food Standards Agency and UKHSA
* Provide expert advice on planning applications and licensing compliance
* Deputise for the Environmental Health Manager and Senior EHP (Environment) as needed
* Drive consistency, training, and continuous improvement across the team
The post will also involve some work outside of normal working hours and providing support to other areas of the Environmental Health Service.
What We’re Looking For
Do you possess the following qualities?
* Fully Qualified EHP ideallywith Chartered Status or equivalent
* Able to meet the competency frame work to be a lead food officer under the Food Law Code of Practice
* BSc/MSc in Environmental Health or equivalent
* Registered with EHORB and/or Chartered Status with CIEH
* Meets FSA competency to be designated “Lead Food Officer”
* A professional, calm and positive manner
* Frontline enforcement experience.
* Effective communication and listening skills
* The ability to work as part of a team as well as under your own initiative
* Excellent IT skills and attention to detail.
