Monarch Education is recruiting on behalf of an SEND primary school in Rugby for the position of a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Teaching Assistant. This is a full-time position required to start as soon as possible (ASAP).
Job Specification
The successful candidate will be a qualified and experienced Teaching Assistant with proven experience in supporting children with a range of SEND within a school environment.
Key Responsibilities And Requirements
* Qualifications:
o Mandatory: Hold a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or a similar relevant qualification.
* Experience:
o Essential experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within a UK primary school setting. This is a mandatory requirement.
o Experience working with children with a variety of needs (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD), Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD)).
o Experience in implementing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) or support plans.
* Skills and Knowledge:
o Understanding of different SEND conditions and effective strategies for supporting children with these needs.
o Ability to build positive and supportive relationships with children, fostering their independence and confidence.
o Skill in adapting learning activities and resources to meet individual needs.
o Ability to work effectively under the direction of the class teacher and/or SENDCo.
o Good communication and interpersonal skills, able to liaise effectively with pupils, staff, parents, and external professionals.
o Knowledge of safeguarding procedures within a school setting.
* Support and Intervention:
o Provide one-to-one or small group support to pupils with SEND, both within the classroom and in separate intervention sessions.
o Assist pupils with their academic learning, providing clarification and encouragement.
o Support pupils with social and emotional development, promoting positive interactions and behaviour.
o Assist with personal care needs where required (depending on the specific needs of the pupils).
o Help create a positive and inclusive classroom environment for all pupils.
* Professional Attributes:
o Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach.
o Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
o The ability to be proactive and take initiative within the scope of the role.
o A commitment to the well-being and progress of children with SEND.
o The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
