Avencia are partnered with a leading insurer and Fortune 500 company, who are looking to recruit an Underwriter in their Leeds-based Professional & Management risks team.
The opportunity
This opportunity is based within the renewals department, where you will be dealing with a wide variety of Professional and Management Risks and wider Financial Lines Risks, including Cyber and Technology risks. This is an area of considerable growth and a great opportunity to join an established but expanding team that plays an integral part in developing the book and improving the way we do business.
The role of the Underwriter is to work as part of the Professional and Management Risks team, providing an excellent underwriting service for both underwriters and brokers in the UK. You will be expected to develop and maintain relationships, work collaboratively, and be proactive in helping brokers and underwriters across all classes of business.
Key accountabilities
Underwriting risks within your personal level of authority
Handling incoming calls promptly and professionally
Diarising and following up renewals with brokers to secure and retain business
Dealing with internal and external enquiries by email and phone
Managing diary items and chasing responses
Following up on outstanding renewal information with brokers
Building strong working relationships with the technical teams in Leeds and the wider business
Supporting the team with ad hoc projects
Demonstrating knowledge of guidelines and authority levels to achieve profitability and underwriting objectives
Delivering excellent service to brokers by prioritising renewals, mid-term adjustments and referrals through our e-trading platform or direct contact
Underwriting renewals within defined authority
Actively managing broker relationships and providing efficient service
Attending underwriting meetings to share insights, trends, and market feedback
Managing renewal cases, working with brokers to secure business and upsell/cross-sell additional coverSkills & experience
Proven, relevant insurance experience and strong technical skills
Background in our classes of business (desirable, not essential)
Excellent written, verbal, and numerical skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Good IT skills (including MS Office)
Willingness to study for CII qualifications (fully funded and supported)Benefits
