Job Summary
Band 5 MHST EMHP/CWP Practitioners work closely with young people, families, parents, and carers, as well as with staff in schools and play settings. They contribute to the quality of services by ensuring safety through sound clinical skills, achieving the best possible clinical outcomes using evidence‑based policies, and providing a positive experience by respecting, empowering and working in partnership with people throughout the care planning process.
Responsibilities
* Deliver low‑intensity evidence‑based interventions for children and young people in education settings with mild to moderate mental health problems.
* Help children and young people with more severe problems rapidly access specialist services.
* Support and facilitate staff in education settings to identify and, where appropriate, manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing.
* Work with and within education environments to improve access to specialist mental health services.
* Implement group/whole‑school approaches and consult on referrals.
* Use acquired skills to build on existing initiatives within education settings without replacing them.
Person Specification
Essential
* Qualified Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP), CYP Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner, or an equivalent qualification.
* Experience working with children and young people, families, and other stakeholders in a healthcare or school setting.
Desirable
* Further relevant degree qualification.
* Teaching qualification.
Skills
Essential
* Excellent communication skills with teams, young people, and parents.
* Accurate, timely, and legible clinical record keeping.
* Care‑planning: assess, develop, implement, and evaluate care plans.
* Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
* Understanding of quality improvement and patient safety.
* Ability to carry out 1:1 therapeutic interventions for children and families.
* Ability to assess and communicate risk appropriately.
* Capability to work within educational settings to increase mental health awareness.
