Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Pharmacy Technician to join our excellent pharmacy team on the Hammersmith Hospital site, which is part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

You will be part of the busy Pharmacy Dispensary and Distribution Team, providing a high quality, patient focused dispensing and stock management service to the wards and clinics.

You will need good computer skills, be able to work independently as well as part of a team, and so excellent communication skills are essential. You must have a NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent recognised Pharmacy Technician qualification be a registered Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC and have mandatory professional CPD as defined by the GPhC.

Main duties of the job

1. To provide a high quality patient focused dispensing service to wards and departments of the Trust, Medical School, associated hospitals, community clinics and on-site research centres.
2. To help ensure that service provision is flexible and responsive to customer needs.
3. To ensure the quality and accuracy of information held on the pharmacy CMM computer system in relation to stock management.
4. To help audit the service against set standards and assist in the review of service provision .
5. To support, develop and monitor the progress of all technical staff working in the dispensary (both rotational and static staff) .

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria

6. Level 3 in Pharmacy Services
7. Registered Pharmacy technician with the GPhC
8. Accredited Checking Technician (or be willing to work towards completion within 18 months of recruitment
9. Mandatory professional CPD as defined by GPhC

Desirable criteria

10. NVQ Assessor (or equivalent qualification)

Experience

Essential criteria

11. An understanding of all aspects and services provided by a UK hospital pharmacy
12. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
13. Team leader/management experience
14. Experience working in Hospital Pharmacy setting

Desirable criteria

15. Ward stock top up experience
16. Training/inducting new members of staff in operational processes
17. Collecting data for auditing purposes
18. Experience in implementing and managing change

Skills / Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential criteria

19. Analytical ability for problem solving
20. To adapt, support and implement changes to operations
21. Demonstrates awareness of and commitment to quality customer care
22. An understanding of the importance of good stock management

Desirable criteria

23. Experience in using CMM (previously JAC) pharmacy computer system
24. Knowledge of automated dispensing systems (Omnicell Robot and CD cupboard)
25. Experience dispensing and supplying oral chemotherapy medications using the ChemoCare computer system
