The Learning Disabilities team within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin has a wonderful opportunity for an Allied Health Profession Assistant
Key Responsibilities
* To provide the best possible experience for young people and carers.

* Carry own case load which remains the responsibility of the registered Occupational Therapist & Speech and Language Therapist. Young people may exhibit distress or have difficult family situations of relevance. Engage young people with the whole AHP Therapy process, including contributing to assessments, interventions and evaluation, feeding back the findings to registered Occupational Therapist & Speech and Language Therapist. Under guidance, demonstrate knowledge and application of theory into practice.
* Assesses and manages risk effectively in clinical and community settings.
* Develops and implements session plans for young people, within a treatment programme prescribed by a registered Occupational Therapist & / or Speech and Language Therapist.
* Monitors young person progress making adjustments to activities (within established parameters) and feeding back to the registered Occupational Therapist & Speech and Language Therapist in a timely and appropriate manner.
* Uses technical and creative skills to engage young people in therapeutic activities and encourages young people/carers to support them in achieving their identified goals.
* Provides information and practical advice, within scope of own competency to young people and carers and other healthcare/education/social care staff involved in young people' care.
Qualifications
* Relevant Level 3 (or above) qualification in health, social care, or education
* Numeracy, Literacy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
* Appropriate AHP assistant qualification eg Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy
Experience
* Working alongside an Occupational Therapist or Speech and Language Therapist
* Experience of supporting people with mental health conditions and learning disabilities/ autism.
* Experience working as part of a team.
* Experience of actively engaging in a supervision system.
* Experience of presenting to groups of people.
* Experience of running group sessions.
* Experience of delivering training packages.
Skills
* Basic knowledge of equipment & material used in both occupational & speech and language therapy.
* Basic therapeutic terminology and therapeutic procedures.
* Basic knowledge of a range of activities/occupations.
* Basic understanding of motivation.
* Evidence base supporting frequently used assessment & treatment interventions.
* Basic understanding of the needs and difficulties of young people with learning disabilities & autism or mental health conditions
* Safeguarding requirements for vulnerable adults and children.
* Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act. Understanding of health & safety issues.
* Understanding of the needs of individuals from diverse social, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
* Ability to communicate information (verbal and written) effectively in a manner appropriate to the individual and situation.
* Ability to engage individuals in a variety of activities
* Time management and ability to prioritise effectively.
* Good observational skills and ability to describe such observations verbally and in writing.
* Record Keeping.
* Ability to relate therapeutically to the needs of the young person group.
* Ability to adapt treatment using own initiative.
* Ability to lead a therapy group session.
* Ability to work collaboratively with members of the MDT to provide an effective service.
* Ability to plan and organise a given caseload and prioritise effectively.
