This is more than a nursing role--its an opportunity to redefine neonatal care for medically complex children.</b></p><h3>Main duties of the job</h3><p>The Northwest Neonatal Operational Delivery Network (ODN), in partnership with Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, is seeking an exceptional Band 8a Neonatal Nurse Specialist to lead and develop care for neonates with complex medical needs (CMC) across the region.</p><p>As the Roald Dahl Neonatal CMC Nurse Specialist, you will provide expert clinical leadership and specialist nursing care for neonates with complex, life‑limiting, or long‑term conditions across the Northwest Neonatal ODN.</p><h3>Job details</h3><p>Job ref 349‑SHCG‑8076737‑RL4</p><p>Site: Saint Mary’s Managed Clinical Service, Newborn Services, Town Manchester</p><p>Salary: £57,528 – £64,750 per annum (pro rata)</p><p>Contract: 24 months (fixed term)</p><p>Hours: Full time – 37.5 hours per week</p><p>Closing date: 28/06/2026 23:59</p><h3>Qualifications</h3><ul><li>Registered Nurse with NMC</li><li>Specialist neonatal qualification or equivalent experience in the neonatal nursing field.</li><li>Previous experience at Band 7</li><li>Advanced Practice: Evidence of advanced practice qualifications such as a masters degree in advanced clinical practice or neonatal care.</li><li>Experience with team leadership, education, and mentoring within a healthcare setting</li></ul><h3>Skills and Competencies</h3><ul><li>Excellent clinical and decision‑making skills.</li><li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.</li><li>Ability to manage complex, high‑risk clinical situations with confidence and professionalism.</li><li>Strong leadership, teamwork, and motivational skills.</li><li>Critical evaluation, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.</li><li>Ability to cope with a busy, unpredictable environment and manage competing demands.</li><li>Ability to work independently, manage their own workload, and take initiative.</li></ul><h3>Knowledge</h3><ul><li>In‑depth knowledge of neonatology, paediatric care, and care of neonates with medical complexity.</li><li>Understanding of local and national healthcare policies and protocols, particularly related to neonatal and paediatric care.</li></ul><h3>Experience</h3><ul><li>Significant clinical experience within neonatal intensive care, particularly in managing infants with complex medical conditions.</li><li>Proven ability to lead and manage clinical teams in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment.</li><li>Experience working in an ODN or across regional networks.</li></ul><h3>Equality, diversity and inclusion</h3><p>Diversity matters.
