Mechanical Design Engineer

Up to £45,000 per annum
Are you a motivated and creative Mechanical Engineer looking to make a real impact within a global, industry-leading organisation? We are seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join a R&D team, supporting both the development of exciting new products and the continuous improvement of an existing portfolio.
After probation period, you'll have flexibility to work from home 1-2 days a week.
In this dynamic role, you will take ideas from concept through to production, contributing to innovative design solutions, custom projects, and the technical excellence that keeps our client ahead of their competitors. This position offers the opportunity to work on bespoke designs, collaborate across multiple teams, and play a key part in shaping the future of our products. This is a Permanent role and you will be reporting to the Design & Development Manager.
Key Responsibilities
New Product Development (NPD)
Collaborate with the Design & Development Manager to bring new product visions to life.
Apply sound engineering principles to generate innovative mechanical solutions.
Perform analysis and simulations to validate concepts and ensure performance.
Prototype, test, and validate designs alongside cross-functional teams.
Support smooth transitions from development to manufacturing.
Monitor product performance, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement improvements.
Custom Project Support
Work with stakeholders to define project requirements and objectives.
Conduct feasibility studies and technical assessments for custom solutions.
Develop conceptual and detailed designs using SolidWorks.
Produce accurate engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation.
Collaborate with manufacturing, procurement, and quality teams for seamless delivery.
Contribute to design reviews and customer meetings, implementing feedback.
Project Design Management
Track project timelines, identify risks, and support mitigation strategies.
Coordinate resources and communicate updates internally and externally.
Maintain design files, reports, and technical documentation.
Produce fully detailed and profitable Solution Specifications for manufacturing, including:
3D CAD models
Dimensioned production drawings (BS8888/ISO standards)
Assembly drawings & BOMs
Test data and prototype evaluationsEssential Skills & Experience
2+ years' experience in new product development.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes: plastics, CNC machining, casting, sheet metal, etc.
Exposure to diverse industries.
Experience with system design involving electrical, electronics, and control interfaces.
SolidWorks PDM experience and strong data management skills.
Proven Mechanical Engineering design experience, from concept to delivery.
