Medical Education in Leeds is a fully integrated service, supporting the education and training of our current and future medical workforce. We largely support NHS England, the GMC, and Royal Colleges/Schools to deliver state‑of‑the‑art postgraduate medical education for all levels of trainees. We assist consultants, SAS grades, resident doctors and others in the medical workforce who are not on training contracts, with ongoing professional development.


Main duties of the job

The post-holder will provide a comprehensive administration service to the Professional Support & Education team and the wider Medical Education Team. Responsibilities include arranging and planning work on a day‑to‑day basis within departmental demands and priorities, administering the regional Foundation Doctor Teaching Programme on behalf of the Yorkshire and Humber Foundation School, supporting the wellbeing of Foundation Doctors within Leeds Teaching Hospitals, providing high‑quality administrative support for other medical & surgical courses and programmes, and supporting department‑wide services such as Resident Doctor Induction.

* Coordinate day‑to‑day administrative workloads and support service delivery.
* Use spreadsheets, databases and other information systems to support reporting and operational activity.
* Communicate sensitively, clearly and effectively.
* Liaise professionally with staff at all levels, including consultants and managers.
* Manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
* Work independently, use initiative and monitor own and team workloads.
* Exercise sound judgement, assess situations and resolve or escalations appropriately.
* Maintain professionalism, confidentiality and discretion at all times.
* Allocate and monitor workloads to ensure service targets are met.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. Good working knowledge of Internet and intranet systems and electronic record‑keeping. Experience of NHS information systems and databases.
* Approachable, professional and trustworthy, demonstrating honesty, integrity and reliability.
* Flexible and adaptable to changing service demands.
* Committed to maintaining high standards of service delivery and continuous improvement, with a willingness to take responsibility for learning, development and undertake relevant training.


Qualifications

* Experience working in an administrative or secretarial role within a large, complex organisation.
* Experience coordinating day‑to‑day administrative workloads and supporting service delivery.
* Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, databases and NHS information systems.
* Able to work independently, maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgement.
