Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join Central London Community Healthcare Trust's well established rotation based in Barnet, North London.

Rotations on offer include Intermediate Care Services, Unplanned Care (Rapid Response, D2A), Inpatient Rehabilitation, and Inpatient Stroke Rehabilitation.

Each rotation lasts 6 months; rotating in April and October.

In return for providing exceptional Occupational Therapy input to the services offered on the rotation, successful applicants will receive regular supervision, have access to a wide range of development opportunities to support their continued professional development as well as monthly peer support groups and regular appraisals.

The successful post holder will have a BSc/MSc in Occupational Therapy and current HCPC membership. They will be highly organised with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

They will have evidence of being able to assess Occupational Therapy needs, set goals, and formulate treatment plans in a variety of healthcare settings either as a student or as a qualified Occupational Therapist.

Possession of UK driving license is desired, and access to a vehicle for business purposes is preferable. Successful post holders must have an ability to work 37.5 hours across 7 days per week and across several locations as determined by service need.


Main duties of the job

Clinical:

To undertake occupational therapy assessments for a designated caseload, addressing occupational performance and skills deficits enabling the client in areas of self-maintenance, productivity and leisure.

To formulate intervention plans which are aimed at maximising independence and reflect the clients own goals.

To work independently in a wide variety of settings including hospital bases, clients homes and community premises.

To work pro-actively with other professionals in providing group and individual interventions.

To prioritise client referrals within service standards.

To work with clients and other professionals to identify occupational therapy goals as part of the overall care plan.

To plan and implement individual and/or group interventions in collaboration with the client using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.

To monitor and evaluate treatment in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.

To undertake assessments of clients in their home environments within service guidelines, identifying any modifications to the environment or assistive technology to support independence.

Person Specification


Education/Qualification

* Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
* Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council


Experience

* Application of the OT Process.
* Experience of working as part of an MDT
* Use of functional assessment and activity analysis.
* Relevant work experience in a variety of clinical placements
* Experience of delegation to support staff


Skills & Knowledge

* Knowledge of current best practice in OT
* Ability to work single-handedly with individuals and groups Understanding of professional ethics and their application in practice
* Understanding of team dynamics
* Basic knowledge of health legislation and current practice, risk assessment and management
* Word processing and internet skills
* Basic knowledge of the principals of clinical governance
* Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance
* Health, safety and risk awareness
* Ability to manage time/caseload effectively
* Commitment to client-centred, non-discriminatory practice
* Commitment to lifelong learning
* Interest in working in community settings
* Hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010)

£35,763 to £43,466 a yearper annum inclusive of HCAS
