About Us:
Mary Hare educates 180 profoundly deaf children at its residential school in Berkshire. We pride ourselves on our pupils’ achievements at GCSE, A Level, as well as B Tech and Vocational Courses. We offer the opportunity to teach highly motivated children in small classes, where you can make a real difference at this national centre of excellence for deaf education. No knowledge of sign language is required, as we follow an auditory/oral philosophy.
The school adopts a holistic approach to care, involving carrying schoolwork into out-of-school life and communication with various professionals, including teachers, classroom assistants, audiologists, nurses, speech therapists, cochlear implant specialists, and social workers. Most importantly, care staff will maintain good communication links with parents, especially those of their key children.
The Role:
We employ professional care staff to care for children and young people outside the school day. As a residential school, we believe Mary Hare should be a caring community meeting the various needs of our young people. All staff share responsibility for safeguarding, wellbeing, and education of pupils.
Care staff should develop good relationships with all pupils, work together to create a safe, secure, stimulating environment, and support their learning. They should also prepare young people for the next stage, whether changing residential houses or leaving school.
Care staff must be prepared to undertake shifts, sleep-in duties, and weekend work. Extra payment is provided for sleep-in duties and overtime.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
* Provide care and support for pupils with assistance and mobility, personal care, communication, and social interaction.
* Collaborate with the school SENDCO, Learning Support Assistants, Physiotherapist, and Occupational Therapist to develop personal care plans.
* Oversee the physical and emotional care of pupils, considering health, diet, clothing, hygiene, safety, and emotional welfare.
* Support daily physiotherapy and exercise programs.
* Encourage social communication and participation in shared activities.
Person Specification:
* English and Maths GCSE or equivalent Level 2 qualification.
* Diploma Level 3 in Childcare.
* Good communication skills with young people and their parents/carers.
* Understanding of Safeguarding, Health and Safety, and Data Protection.
* Experience in a residential care environment.
