About the role
We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Chef to join our friendly nursing home team. In this role, you will plan and prepare nutritious, high-quality meals for our residents while ensuring food safety and hygiene standards are consistently met. You will also play an important part in creating a welcoming dining experience that supports residents' health and wellbeing.
Reports to: Home Manager
Key duties and responsibilities
* Plan and prepare daily menus that meet residents' nutritional needs and preferences.
* Cook appetizing and visually appealing meals within budget.
* Monitor stock levels, order supplies, and maintain accurate inventory records.
* Ensure all food is stored, prepared, and served in line with health and safety standards.
* Train, support, and supervise kitchen staff.
* Keep the kitchen clean, safe, and well-organized, including regular deep cleaning.
* Attend staff meetings and training as required.
* Build positive relationships with residents and their families, responding to feedback promptly.
Skills and attributes
* Proven experience as a Chef, ideally within healthcare, social care, or hospitality settings.
* Strong cooking skills with knowledge of various cuisines and techniques.
* Understanding of nutrition and ability to plan for dietary requirements (e.g. allergies, special diets).
* Strong communication and team leadership skills.
* Good time management with the ability to work under pressure.
* Knowledge of food hygiene and health & safety standards.
* Flexible approach, willing to work weekends and holidays.
Education and qualifications
* Food Hygiene Certificate – Level 2 (or willingness to work towards higher certification).
* First Aid Certification.
* NVQ Level 2/3 in Food Preparation/Catering (or equivalent).
