Senior Electrical Design Engineer, Fluid Sensing & Instrumentation Coventry, UK | £80,000 - £85,000 | Permanent | New Role
The Opportunity
A globally operating manufacturer of precision engineered sensor and instrumentation products is looking for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to take technical ownership of next-generation fluid sensing systems. Based at their Coventry facility, this is a newly created role with genuine scope, leading a small development team while staying close to the design work you've built your career on.
If you've spent your career designing sensing and instrumentation electronics from first principles and you're ready to formalise your leadership experience, this is worth a conversation. You'll be developing advanced fluid level sensing products for some of the world's most demanding heavy vehicle and off-road environments, working across construction, agriculture, mining and commercial vehicles. Products that go into equipment made by the biggest names in the industry, deployed globally.
The Role
You'll own the full development cycle, from sensing architecture and electronics design through signal processing, validation and production launch. Technologies include guided wave radar, capacitive sensing and ultrasonic measurement. You'll lead and develop a small team of engineers, set technical direction, and be the go-to authority on sensing and instrumentation within the business.
This is a hands-on role. You'll be expected to work at the physics and electronics level, not just manage the process from a distance.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and develop a small team of development engineers while remaining technically hands-on
Own end-to-end electrical design of fluid level sensing systems, from concept and architecture through to production launch
Design analog and mixed-signal electronics for harsh heavy vehicle and off-road environments
Drive innovation in sensing methods, signal processing and system robustness
Work within automotive-grade development processes including APQP and DFMEA/PFMEA
Collaborate with global OEM customers and partners on integration, field validation and performance
Design for extreme environments including wide temperature ranges, high vibration, shock, EMI/EMC and chemical exposure
What You'll Bring
Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering
Solid hands-on experience in electrical design within sensor, instrumentation or measurement products
Background in heavy vehicle, off-road, construction, agriculture, mining or commercial vehicle sectors
Deep expertise in analog and mixed-signal circuit design
Experience with sensing technologies such as guided wave radar, capacitive, ultrasonic or similar industrial/automotive instrumentation
A track record of taking sensing or instrumentation products from concept through to production
Hands-on PCB design and troubleshooting skills
Experience designing for harsh environments including temperature extremes, vibration, shock and EMI/EMC
Familiarity with automotive quality processes including APQP and DFMEA/PFMEA
Some experience leading or mentoring engineers, you're ready to formalise this
Embedded firmware (C/C++) and automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN) desirable
IATF 16949 and ISO 26262 knowledge desirable
What's On Offer
£80,000 - £85,000 per annum
25 days holiday annually
Company pension scheme
Life assurance
Casual, energetic workplace
Global product impact across construction, agriculture, mining and commercial vehicle markets
