Higher Level Teaching Assistant – SEN
Location: Effingham, Surrey
Actual salary: £27,713 - £30,250 dependant on qualifications Plus £2000 Welcome bonus For HLTA with SEN Experience*
Hourly rate: £15.51 - £16.93 per hour
Hours: 40 hours per week - Term Time only - Start time 8.15am - Finish time Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday 4.45pm. Thursday 5pm and Friday 4pm

Higher Level Teaching Assistant – Aurora Poppyfield School
Join our dedicated team at Poppyfield School, where we support students aged 11–16 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) through a nurturing and inclusive approach. We empower our young people to access the national curriculum in a way that works for them and to achieve meaningful vocational qualifications by the time they leave school.

Key Responsibilities:
Pupil Welfare & Safeguarding
5. Ensure pupil safety and wellbeing in line with school safeguarding and PREVENT policies.
6. Provide feedback on pupil behaviour, relationships, and attitudes.
7. Monitor and manage pupil conduct, resolving complex behavioural issues and maintaining accurate records.
Teaching & Learning Support
8. Lead classes in the absence of the Class Teacher.
9. Support teaching duties as per professional standards.
10. Plan and deliver learning activities for individuals, groups, or whole classes, adapting as needed.
11. Provide high-quality, differentiated educational experiences across the curriculum.
12. Develop and implement individual pupil plans (e.g. EHCPs), and contribute to reviews when required.

What We’re Looking For:
13. Higher Level Teaching Assistant Diploma or equivalent Level 4 qualification or demonstrate equivalent skill level.
14. GCSE English & Maths (Grade 4/C or above)
15. Understanding of safeguarding and child protection
16. Knowledge of SEN, SEMH, or ASD
17. Consistent, child-centred support approach
18. Positive, creative mindset to meet individual needs
19. Willingness to engage in behaviour support strategies (including Team Teach physical intervention, if needed)
20. Ability to complete accurate, timely reports
