We are looking to recruit a Senior Science Technician to work with Science Teachers as part of a professional team to support the learning of students by providing technical support through the preparation and maintenance of equipment and the Science laboratoriesWe are looking for a great team player with a flexible attitude and who strives to be the best they can be. Any successful applicant will be required to undertake a DBS check at an Enhanced level.Overall Purpose of the Role:To work with Science Teachers as part of a professional team to support the learning of students by providing technical support through the preparation and maintenance of equipment and the Science laboratories· Leading a team of two technicians servicing 7 labs.· To be the first point of contact for teachers with resourcing difficulties and when necessary attending departmental meetings.· Ensuring that the day to day resources needs are met.· Maintaining a safe working environment for technicians and teaching staff in preparation areas.· Advising the Head of Department of any health and safety issues which become apparent.· Responsibility for development and maintenance of stock records system.· Advising the Head of Department on present and anticipated resources needs.· Working with the Head of Department to plan training and development for technical staff.· The construction and repair of equipment.· Liaison with external contractors.· Collection of equipment and materials from storage and their organisation for class use.· Preparation of equipment and materials for lessons for demonstration and class use.· Checking materials and equipment before and after class use for quantity and damage.· Maintenance of laboratories to ensure a safe working environment.· Advising science teachers on safety matters or potential problems with equipment where necessary.· Maintenance of inventory and stock taking.· Placing orders and checking deliveries.· Safe disposal of chemical and biological waste.· Ensuring the safe and ordered storage of all stock.· Cleaning of glass ware and other equipment.· Other tasks as may be requested by the Head of Science from time to time.The post holder would be expected to contribute to the overall ethos, mission, work and aims of the school.
