Learning Support Assistant
Prospero Teaching is seeking a patient and motivated Learning Support Assistant to work with pupils in the Southampton area. This long‑term role involves providing additional classroom support to students who may need help with learning, confidence, emotional regulation, or accessing the curriculum.
You will work closely with teaching staff to support pupils throughout the school day, offering reassurance, guidance, and tailored assistance where required. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys helping young people overcome barriers to learning in a structured and supportive environment.
This role is well suited to candidates with experience in support roles, care, youth work, SEN settings, or graduates looking to gain meaningful school‑based experience before moving into teaching, psychology, or related pathways.
The Role:
Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils who require extra assistance
Support pupils with classroom activities, lessons, and daily routines
Help students stay focused, calm, and engaged in learning
Encourage confidence, independence, and positive behaviour
Assist teachers with implementing learning and support strategies
Support emotional regulation and social development
Contribute to a calm, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
Ideal Candidate:
Experience working with children or vulnerable individuals
Calm, patient, and confident supporting varying needs
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Able to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
Adaptable and reliable in a school setting
Graduates in psychology, education, or child‑related subjects encouraged to apply
Contract Details:
Position: Learning Support Assistant
Location: Southampton
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: Full‑time, term‑time
Pay Rate: £14.66 - £15.66 per hour
Contract: Long‑term
Experience, Training & Safeguarding:
Experience with children desirable
SEN experience beneficial but not essential
Safeguarding training can be provided
Eligibility:
Right to work in the UK
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
