Job Title: Outreach Project Officer

Location: DIAL South Essex, The Beehive, Grays, RM17 6XP

Contract Type: Part‑time 20 hours per week (Fixed‑term) with a view to extend

Salary: £14,309.94 (pro rata £25,042 for 35 hours)

Reporting to: Development Manager


Role Overview

The Outreach Project Officer will play a key role in promoting inclusion and improving access to services for disabled people. The postholder will engage with individuals, families, carers, and community partners to raise awareness of the charity’s services, reduce barriers to participation, and ensure disabled people are empowered to access opportunities and support. This role requires a strong commitment to the social model of disability, focusing on removing barriers and enabling equal participation in society.


Key Responsibilities

* Develop and deliver inclusive outreach strategies to engage disabled people and their support networks.
* Build strong relationships with local communities, disability groups, healthcare providers and partner organisations.
* Promote the charity’s services through accessible communication methods and formats.
* Plan and deliver accessible events, workshops, and engagement activities (online and in‑person).
* Identify and address barriers to participation, ensuring all outreach is inclusive and accessible.
* Support service users to access programmes and benefits, including signposting and referrals.
* Gather feedback and lived experience insights to inform service improvement.
* Monitor and evaluate outreach activities, ensuring impact is captured and reported.
* Contribute to funding reports, case studies, and impact measurement.
* Ensure safeguarding policies and accessibility standards are upheld at all times.


Key Skills & Experience


Essential

* Experience in outreach, community engagement, or project delivery (preferably within the charity, health, or social care sector).
* Strong understanding of disability inclusion and accessibility.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of audiences.
* Experience organising inclusive events or activities.
* Ability to build trust with disabled people, carers, and stakeholders.
* Good organisational and time‑management skills.
* Experience collecting and reporting data to demonstrate impact.
* Must be able to drive and have daily use of a car.


Desirable

* Lived experience of disability (encouraged and valued).
* Knowledge of the social model of disability and inclusive practice.
* Experience working with specific groups (e.g., learning disabilities, physical disabilities, neurodivergent individuals).
* Understanding of safeguarding and person‑centred approaches.
* Knowledge of the benefit system.

Additional Information

* Flexible working may be required, including occasional evenings.
* Travel within the local community so driving and use of a car is essential.
* Reasonable adjustments will be provided in line with accessibility needs.
* Enhanced DBS check may be required.
