Offer description

An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, dynamic and self-motivated professional to join our pharmacy team at the Sutton site of the Royal Marsden.

You will be part of a team consisting of Pharmacists, Technicians and Assistants, who are always striving for excellence in all aspects of our work. We work collaboratively as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team to ensure we always deliver outstanding care to our patients.

It is an exciting time to join the Royal Marsden Hospital Pharmacy Department. Our service is built around providing a high-quality service to our patients and staff at the Trust. We have recently opened a new cancer treatment centre at the Sutton site, The Oak Cancer Centre (OCC), and there are plans for a new state of the art Aseptic unit.

With the opening of the new OCC, we are diversifying our service for the delivery of parenteral SACT products to the hospital through our new SACT Distribution Unit (SDU). The unit will allow us to maximise the efficiency of procurement and delivery of externally sourced parenteral SACT products to the Royal Marsden Hospital sites. The SDU will work closely and collaboratively with the Hospital’s Pharmacy Aseptic unit to co‑ordinate delivery of treatments that are delivered from both units.
The EPIC digital health record system was introduced in March 2023, and we are looking to use the full capabilities of this system to support the efficient delivery of parenteral SACT products through the SDU.

Main duties of the job

* To maintain and manage the safe, efficient and daily running of the SACT Distribution Unit (SDU) to the highest standard of patient focused care and according to the needs of the Trust.
* The procurement, storage, dispensing, final checking and distribution of batch and patient specific (PS) products to all areas of the Royal Marsden.
* To act as a supervisor and support with the daily operational management of the SDU and when necessary, deputise for the Lead Pharmacy Technician SDU.
* To act as a role model and to line manage and appraise junior members of the team.
* To work closely with Stores Manager, Pharmacy Systems Manager and Chief Technicians, Aseptic Services to ensure the effective delivery of batch and PS products to the hospital.

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff

At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.

The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient‑facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
