Role Title
Operations Manager
Role Purpose
Reporting to the Managing Director, be a key part of the site leadership team responsible for supporting the Directors to effectively manage and grow the business.
Responsible for the entire production process from order to delivery.
Responsibilities
* Overseeing production, purchasing of raw materials and planning.
* Ensure high quality control standards across all business areas and adherence to food hygiene legislation.
* Cost management including waste, direct labour and materials with performance related KPIs.
* Looking for solutions to solve operational problems.
* Lead, coach, and support section supervisors, acting as a role model for company values.
* Manage daily and weekly KPI's, offering a detailed account of variances to the production plan, Health & Safety, people, and engineering priorities.
* Identify training needs for the team and individuals and ensure adequate coaching and training to enhance flexibility by following an agreed training plan including mandatory compliance training and in-house on the job skills training.
* Drive the continuous improvement of operational metrics, performance, and improvements.
* Ensure the site always operates at 'audit ready' standards and promote a proactive quality culture within the team.
* Leading and driving standards of quality, food safety, hygiene, and housekeeping within your area through Good Manufacturing Practice (G.M.P.)
* Lead the production team in the production section to deliver daily/weekly production plans to the company standard, ensuring efficiency in ways of working, driving performance through smart planning.
* Adding production orders to the planning system as sales orders are received, meeting customer expectations for delivery, scheduling by capacity, date and allergens.
* Planning and forecasting materials and staffing for the production plan, meeting key targets in relation to staff, ingredients, packaging.
* Manage wastage and ensure this is kept to a minimum.
* Lead Health & Safety compliance and a safety culture across the entire business.
* Lead on compliance for accreditations e.g. SALSA, BRC.
* Ensure HACCP procedures are followed to ensure quality and safety of finished products.
* Ensure induction, training & development is effectively managed across the business.
* Work with Finance & Planning Manager to provide data for business planning and forecasting for directors.
Key tasks
* Produce a weekly production schedule for each section, ensuring maximum efficiency and ensuring delivery deadlines are met.
* Hold daily operational meetings with key team members
* Ensure comprehensive production paperwork is available at all times.
* Address any issues not adhering to quality.
* Ensure stock take is completed on a quarterly basis.
* Manage stock of raw materials and packaging with Stores Supervisor.
* Implement any request or change to products – packing configuration/product quality and appearance etc.
* Lead and support production staff, agreeing target staffing levels with MD, approving absence/holidays, recruitment, liaising with the office re: employee records, and being the point of contact for staff.
* Oversee management of employee issues and support liaison with HR and the Finance & Planning Manager.
* Work with NPD to launch new products carrying out trial runs, training staff in new products.
* Work with the office to organise deliveries, sample drops & any special orders.

Professional Profile
Experience
* Previous operational management experience in fast paced food manufacturing environment - minimum of 3 years.
* Experience of operating in FMGC environments with background in planning and materials management.
* Proven track record of managing operational teams.
* Demonstrate sound knowledge of food safety, food hygiene and quality requirements
* Can work with responsibility, independence and working at pace.

* Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with all stakeholders – directors, staff, suppliers, customers, etc.
* Highly numerate with awareness of P&L drivers and cost control.

* High level organisational skills and attention to detail.
Qualifications
* Degree level qualification or equivalent is preferred.
* Level 5 qualification in management or willingness to attain with business support is preferred.
* A H&S qualification would be preferred e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH
