Education and qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Registered Nurse: e.g. RGN,RSCN, RMN, RM, appropriate to the role
2. Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) – Health Visitor or School Nurse.
3. Educated to Degree level or equivalent.
4. Level 3 safeguarding children training
5. Evidence of professional development within the safeguarding children field
Desirable criteria
6. Qualification in Mental Health for children and young people.
7. Accredited safeguarding children supervision course.
8. Teaching qualification.
9. Studies at Post graduate level.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
10. Specialist Knowledge of the Children Act, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023 and other relevant national guidance
11. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the connections between Children and Adult safeguarding
12. A working knowledge of the Safeguarding children’s agenda, national and local key policy drivers and legislative framework.
13. Experience of working with children and young people subject to Child in Need / Child Protection Plans and those Looked After
14. Evidence of facilitating groups and /or delivering training.
15. Experience in working collaboratively with other professionals and agencies with complex issues and in complex situations.
16. Knowledge and understanding of care planning, risk assessment and management of complex cases.
17. Experience of undertaking audit to support practice and service improvement
18. Proven verbal and written communication skills
19. Able to demonstrate leadership skills
Desirable criteria
20. Experience of working in an acute hospital setting.
21. Experience of working in CAMHs or Tier 4 provision.
22. Experience of working with adolescents in a health setting
23. Knowledge of the wider health community.
24. Domestic Abuse/MARAC experience

26. Experience of report writing and serious incident investigation

29. Able to effectively manage risk within a safeguarding context.
30. Ability to provide high level reports.
31. Ability to analyse issues and think critically.
32. Be able to concentrate at high level when reviewing information, undertaking complex work and formulating responses to information provided.
33. I.T skills, including Word and Excel.
34. Skills and ability for line management for junior members of the team eg management of attendance, appraisals etc.
35. Ability to represent Trust at multi-agency forums.
36. Able to prioritise and work under pressure to deliver to targets and timescales.
