Head of Charity

The closing date is 08 January 2026

Are you a visionary leader with a passion for making a difference? Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is seeking a dynamic Head of Charity to drive our charitable strategy, lead fundraising, and inspire a culture of innovation.

The Head of Charity is responsible for the vision, strategic leadership, and delivery of all functions related to charitable income generation for Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. This senior role oversees all aspects of the Health Charity's operations, with a prime focus on leading fundraising to drive optimum performance. Currently there are over 90 charities that operate within or are associated with the Cardiff and Vale Health Boards remit; this role will be key in aligning and coordinating the work of these stakeholders to ensure the best outcomes for the population. The postholder will operate independently, aligning annual plans and delivery to meet strategic needs, managing departmental functions, interpreting organisational policies, and ensuring compliance with all legal frameworks.

A key focus is driving donor‑centric partnerships, providing exceptional supporter experiences, and building strong stakeholder relationships. The Head of Charity acts as a dedicated ambassador for the Health Board, committed to transforming patient care through a business‑minded and innovative approach to development.

Main duties of the job

This is a unique opportunity for an inspiring leader with a proven track record in charity management and fundraising to join a forward‑thinking healthcare organisation. Building and nurturing relationships—both within the Health Board and across the wider community and charity sector—is at the heart of this role.

We are seeking someone with outstanding communication skills, strategic vision, and the confidence to champion our charity's mission and values. Cardiff and Vale UHB are committed to your professional development, and we offer a wide range of opportunities to enhance your skills and advance you in your new career.

We are looking for candidates who will:

* Lead and inspire the charity team to deliver ambitious fundraising goals.
* Build strong relationships with donors, supporters, and stakeholders.
* Champion our charity's brand and drive innovative fundraising initiatives.
* Ensure compliance with charity regulations and best practice.
* Oversee financial stewardship and governance of charitable assets.
* Raise the profile of our charity across the community and NHS.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
