About This Opportunity

Cumberland Council’s Sensory Impairment Team is seeking a Qualified Teacher of Blind/Vision Impaired children and young people (QTVI) for a full‑time fixed‑term (12‑month) post covering maternity leave. The successful candidate must start as soon as possible. The role is a teachers’ main scale post and is eligible for SEND points and UPS.

Carlisle or Workington (flexible office base)

Fixed‑term (12 months)


Role and Responsibilities

The role covers the whole of Cumberland and involves peripatetic work supporting blind/vision impaired children and young people, schools/settings, and families. The successful candidate will work alongside Qualified Teachers of the Deaf (QToDs), another QTVI, and Sensory Specialist Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs). Responsibilities include supporting pupils from preschool to post‑16, demonstrating excellent communication skills, and maintaining a commitment to inclusive education and high aspirations for BVI children and young people.

DBS Checks

This role requires an Enhanced DBS check with a Children’s Barred List check. Candidates barred from working in regulated activity with children are not eligible.
