About us: By managing offenders in the community, the Probation Service protects the public from crime and helps offenders turn their lives around. Successful applicants may be based at a variety of office, court, team or prison locations within the Probation Service region, allocated according to business need.

Role and Responsibilities

Case Administrators are required to work within a variety of settings, including Probation Delivery Units (PDU), Courts and Prisons, depending on business requirements. They play an important role in supporting probation staff and ensuring that processes run efficiently, systems are maintained, and probation information is collated and prepared for case files. You will use strong communication skills to handle enquiries from colleagues, agencies and people on probation in a busy environment.

* Support probation teams by handling administrative processes and maintaining case information.
* Ensure efficient workflow and accurate record-keeping for case files.
* Communicate effectively with colleagues, agencies and service users.

Appointments, Location and Progression

Where applicants provide multiple location preferences, reserve lists will be managed in accordance with these preferences, and appointments will be made in merit list order for each location. Remaining candidates who meet the benchmark will remain on a locational reserve list for 12 months. Offers of employment will be in merit order as vacancies arise. The addresses in the advertisement are indicative of potential base locations; the successful candidate(s) will be offered a vacancy within a reasonable commute of their home location. New entrants join at the entry point salary for the advertised band; existing Civil Servants’ salaries are calculated per transfer/promotion rules. VISOR vetting will be completed post-offer where applicable.

Working Arrangements

The MoJ offers Hybrid Working where business needs allow. This is non-contractual and covers working from base location, MoJ sites and/or home. Some roles may not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and reviewed regularly. For nationally advertised roles, appointment will be to a MoJ office location, possibly the nearest Justice Collaboration Centre or Justice Satellite Office, as discussed at pre-employment checks. Civil Service reform may change terms and conditions for new joiners. Standard full-time hours are 37 hours per week (unpaid breaks). The Probation Service supports part-time, flexible and job-sharing patterns in line with policy.

Approved Premises (AP) are residential units for those released on licence and requiring supervision. Case Administrators support probation teams, helping to keep the public safe and support offenders in transitioning from custody to the community. If you are successful you will start on \u00a323,583, Pro-Rata, with potential annual progression through a Competency Based Framework.

Benefits and Diversity

The MoJ offers a range of benefits including annual leave (25 days increasing to 30 after five years), pension options through the Local Government Pension Scheme, training and development opportunities, and access to employee networks. The Civil Service Code governs recruitment by merit and open competition. Reasonable adjustments are available for candidates with a disability during recruitment. Redeployment opportunities are provided for those at risk of redundancy. Further information about eligibility and benefits can be found through the government and MoJ channels.
