Slough Borough Council are looking to recruit a Temporary Accommodation Manager to join their team on a contract basis!
Key Responsibilities
* Service Delivery
o Manage the day-to-day operation of the Council's temporary accommodation portfolio, including leased, purchased, and private sector provision.
o Ensure placements are safe, suitable, and compliant with statutory requirements, including health & safety, safeguarding, and housing standards.
o Oversee move-ins, transfers, and move-outs, minimising void periods and ensuring smooth transitions into permanent housing.
* Financial & Contract Management
o Monitor budgets, rent collection, and housing benefit claims relating to temporary accommodation.
o Procure and manage contracts with providers, landlords, and agents, ensuring value for money and compliance with procurement policies.
o Regularly review and negotiate rental charges to control costs and reduce reliance on expensive nightly-paid accommodation.
* Performance & Compliance
o Maintain accurate records and management information systems to track usage, costs, and outcomes.
o Produce regular performance reports for senior management and elected members.
o Keep up to date with housing legislation, statutory guidance, and best practice, ensuring the Council meets its legal duties.
* Partnership Working
o Work with internal teams (e.g. Housing Options, Allocations, Finance, Legal, Property Services) and external stakeholders (landlords, housing associations, support providers) to improve service delivery.
o Build strong relationships with private landlords and letting agents to increase accommodation supply.
Person Specification
Essential:
* Proven experience managing temporary accommodation, housing services, or a related area.
* Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation (Housing Act 1996 Part VII, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017) and statutory guidance.
* Experience of managing staff and budgets in a housing or local authority setting.
* Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
* Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and commitment to protecting vulnerable residents.
