Job Summary: The successful candidate will provide outpatient clinics at the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) and Royal Sussex County Hospital (RSCH). The rheumatology department at RSCH has recently relocated to the new Louisa Martindale building (LMB). Specialist clinics include Connective Tissue Disease, Vasculitis, Osteoporosis, Early Inflammatory Arthritis, Sero‑negative Inflammatory Arthritis, Adolescent Rheumatology and combined Ophthalmology. The role encourages an interest in Connective Tissue Disease and vasculitis.
Main Duties: Day‑to‑day care of rheumatology outpatients and liaison with associated medical teams for inpatient care. Full‑time working with participation in a 1:5 daytime rota for ward referrals, advice emails and triage. Teaching and training of Resident Doctors from the KSS Deanery and medical students from BSMS. Clinical supervision of rheumatology SpR, nursing staff and pharmacist. Participation in the Clinical Investigation and Research Unit (CIRU) on the RSCH site, with several ongoing clinical trials. Clinical governance, audit and service improvement plans. Engagement with the medical school for teaching commitments to 4th‑year students and research projects.

Job Responsibilities: This is a newly created 10PA consultant post designed to support rheumatology services across the department, particularly CTD/vasculitis. The successful candidate will conduct 4 clinics per week, with clinic templates allowing a maximum of 3 new patients and 6 follow‑ups (or 10 follow‑ups with allocated times). Specialist CTD clinics allocate 40 min for new patients and 20 min for follow‑ups. No designated inpatient beds; admission remains with acute physicians with daily input from SpR and consultant of the day. 1:5 consultant rota for daytime on‑call/ward referrals is in place, allocating 1PA per week. Triaging of referrals, advice, guidance emails, ERS portal, homecare drug prescribing and communication with patients, GPs and specialists are distributed amongst consultants. Attendance at departmental governance meetings, audit, and service improvement plans is expected. The post holder will maintain personal development through a structured plan.
Clinical supervision of specialist registrars & advanced practitioners and teaching of medical students is required. The Trust supports appraiser training and managerial skill development if the candidate is interested.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Basic medical degree
* MCRP UK or equivalent
* Full and specialist registration (with licence to practice) with the GMC or eligibility for registration within six months of interview
* Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Rheumatology or within six months of receiving it, or evidence of equivalent qualifications if trained outside the UK
