Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to work with our technical lead and colleagues to manage the waste exemptions regime (WEX). WEX charges were implemented on 1 July 2025 and will bring environmental, regulatory, and business benefits, while increasing workload in E&B. We aim to place WEX on a sustainable regime footing and manage it like other chargeable regulatory regimes.

* Collaborate with the Ruby Digital Team on the development and enhancements of the on-line registration service, national customer contact centre, and payment centre.
* Work with Defra, NRW, trade bodies and networks to ensure alignment between Defra policy development and operational delivery capabilities.
* Support exemptions reform technical work at critical milestones and help build resilience in the WEX team.
* Own all aspects of WEX with scope to support the wider team’s work and priorities.
Team and Environment
You will join the national Waste Treatment and Transfer team and the national leads on biowaste, non-hazardous and hazardous waste, metals, fire prevention, and waste exemptions. The E&B team promotes a positive, inclusive culture and uses evidence, expertise, engagement, and innovation to enhance delivery, influence policy and secure resources.
Experience / Skills Required
* Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and encourage consideration of diversity in work.
* Knowledge of waste regulation from an operational perspective.
* Knowledge of the regulatory system regulating the sector and awareness of its strengths and weaknesses.
* Business management and a demonstrable track record of delivering outcomes.
* Ability to work to deadlines and tight timescales.
* Experience of working collaboratively to achieve goals.
