The Shift Engineer forms part of the Technical team service provided under the contract.
Operating Hours: shift 0800‑1830 spread over a 4 days on/4 days off pattern, including call‑outs.
Key Objectives of the Role
* Provide efficient and effective control of work services, supporting projects, operational activities and small works across the BP portfolio.
* Coordinate, plan and monitor subcontract works, including monitoring, auditing and enforcement of Control of Work requirements.
* Ensure safe execution, agreed quality and timely completion of subcontract work while meeting Client & JLL requirements.
* Support out‑of‑contract hours works, manage contractors and manage workload with the Engineering Management Team.
* Fault‑find LV/ELV control systems, monitoring and fault diagnostics on power quality.
* Isolate plant and manage systems including controls and pump sets.
* Work in real time on a tablet.
* Manage data collection and systems to pull information and make changes.
* Install and maintain new plant and equipment, rectifying faults and defects swiftly.
* Ensure suitable spares are available for maintenance and reactive works, and establish estimated timescales.
* Operate HVAC systems at full potential, diagnose and repair non‑gas related issues.
* Manage project time to meet deadlines and complete assigned tasks.
* Work flexibly across trades, reacting to breakdown maintenance requests within SLA’s.
* Execute self‑performance maintenance tasks and maintain an IT environment and data systems.
* Apply risk‑focused maintenance approach in data centre/critical environments.
* Provide OOH emergency response on site, manage BCP, and escalates urgent issues to the Technical Services Manager.
* Maintain all critical engineering maintenance documentation and records in line with industry standards.
* Ensure maintenance tasks complete within agreed timescales and liaise with client representatives.
* Advise the Facilities Management Team of changes in critical environment requirements.
* Work over and above contractual hours when required.
* Undertake site surveys, produce works requests, method statements and risk assessments for planned works.
* Control and supervise contractors when required.
* Carry out PPM’s and critical facility PPM’s to schedule, and complete reactive helpdesk requests in line with SLA’s.
* Follow JLL H&S procedures, permit to work system, and action improvements identified during inspections.
* Monitor and analyse environmental conditions, review load and working conditions of critical equipment.
* Understand operational protocols for alarm conditions and auxiliary backup system capabilities.
* Submit incident reports for abnormal incidents, determine root cause and action items.
* Enter relevant quotes and remedial works onto the in-house team for correct management.
* Maintain L8 compliance and onsite water treatment systems.
* Communicate building issues to end users.
* Fault‑find start‑delta motors, VFDs and Soft‑Start controls.
* Enhance service delivery through best practice and effective use of site systems.
* Understand CDM/Permit to work process and SAP.
* Know domestic and commercial LTHW systems, pressure vessels, buffer vessels and valves.
* Maintain pumps, sump and tanks including float‑level sensors.
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications Required
* Building services knowledge.
* Minimum 5 years experience with a recognised apprenticeship and qualifications to undertake the role at a higher education L2 level.
* Mechanical/Electrical/HVAC knowledge.
* Commercial or LV switching knowledge.
* Facility knowledge – HVAC and systems.
* HSE knowledge.
* City & Guilds or equivalent in Engineering/Electrician qualifications.
* SMSTMS / IOSH / NEBOSH certification desirable.
* Manager or supervisory experience of contractors for remedial service and maintenance.
* Competent operator of Permit to Work systems.
* Computer literate – familiar with MS Office, Microsoft Project and bespoke databases.
* Experience working in a similar role within a large diverse organisation with proven track record of EHS activities.
* Experience in continuous improvement culture (ideal).
* Experience in BMS controls / HVAC.
* Understanding of PRVs, pumps, critical environment cooling.
* Knowledge of emergency response/standby/call‑out activities and protocols.
* Understanding of utility monitoring and environmental programmes.
