Senior Physiotherapist - Cardiorespiratory

This opportunity is available for a highly motivated Band 6 Physiotherapist to join the Physiotherapy department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead.

This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Specialist Band 6 Physiotherapist using specialist clinical skills and clinical reasoning to provide a high quality Physiotherapy service within Cardiorespiratory Rehabilitation Service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead. The primary role is to work with cardiac and repsiratory patients but the role will also include other respiratory and cardiology conditions, covering acute wards, groups and outpatient clinics.

This post include aspects of community work, so post holders will be required to hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a car for work purposes.

There will be opportunities to allow you to develop a wide range of clinical, teaching and supervision skills. You will also work closely with the other team members and share responsibility for managing band 5, support staff (bands 2-4) and students.

You will play an active role in audits and service development.

You will be required to work a shift pattern between the hours of 08:00 - 17:00 and will be expected to participate in 7 day working rotas; including weekends and twilight shifts (12:00 - 20:00).This post does not include an on call requirement.

Main duties of the job

* To act as an experienced autonomous practitioner, providing specialised physiotherapy assessment and treatment programmed to cardiac and respiratory patients
* To independently manage a caseload, using evidence based /patient centered principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
* To deliver care in both acute and community settings.

Job responsibilities

* To work primarily in the cardiorepiratory service but within the wider medical physiotherapy team across acute and community physiotherapy services as required. This may involve loan working
* Responsible to the band 7 Advanced Practitioner Physiotherapist in the cardiorespiratory team.
* To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to deliver a holistic patient-centered approach to care.
* To regularly liaise with MDT members including those from heath, social services and voluntary agencies to ensure an integrated and comprehensive service is provided.
* To ensure that patients are identified for prompt discharge and handover to community services.
* To provide training for more junior staff, as agreed with senior staff.
* To support the band 7 team lead and band 7 advanced practitioner physiotherapist in planning, coordinating, and delivering the service provided to patients and to assist in the development, planning and progression of service provision.
* To deputise for the band 7 advanced practitioner physiotherapist in their absence as required to support the wider medical team.
* To supervise other juniors and support staff within the team
* To supervise physiotherapy students on clinical placements.
* To participate in CPD and develop skills and knowledge through participation in the in service training scheme.
* Maintaining Records as an autonomous practitioner.
* To be an active participant in the twilight and 7 day working rota


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Hold a qualification enabling registration with the Health Professions Council (HCPC) as a Physiotherapist.


Experience

* Experience in the management of the acutely unwell patients in particular those with acute respiratory compromise
* Rotational experience at band 5 level within neurology, respiratory and critical care, acute medicine, surgery, orthopaedics and MSK outpatients.
* Experience of working as part of a physiotherapy team and/or multidisciplinary team, showing an understanding of other professional roles.
* Experience of organising and prioritising a complex patient caseload in a busy acute hospital and community based settings.
* Experience in audit, research and understanding quality issues
* Experienced clinical educator
* Previous experience of cardiac and respiratory management
* Membership/involvement in relevant special interest group/network


Skills and Knowledge

* Full UK driving licence / Access to car for work purposes
* Expert manual therapeutic skills and handling techniques
* Evidence of in-depth and up to date knowledge and skills in the assessment and management of complex cardiorespiratory conditions utilising a holistic approach
* Adhere to the CSP/HCPC Code of Ethics, Professional Conduct and Standards of practice.
