We are seeking an enthusiastic, customer focused individual to join our growing head office contact centre team as a Switchboard Operator. Location: Portadown (Head office) Hours Week1: Monday, Wednesday & Friday 8.30am - 5.30pm, Tuesday & Thursday 2-8pm and Saturday 9am to 3pm (42 hours) Week 2: Monday to Friday 8.30am - 5.30pm ( 42.5 hours) Week 3: Monday to Thursday 09:00am - 5.30pm and Friday 09:00 to 12:30pm (35.5 Hours) This is an average working week of 40 hours per week (total of 173.33 hours per month). The Role We are seeking a professional and courteous Switchboard Operator to manage incoming calls and direct them efficiently within our organisation. The ideal candidate will serve as the first point of contact for visitors and callers, ensuring a positive and seamless communication experience. This role requires excellent organisational skills, a friendly demeanour, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a busy environment. The successful applicant will contribute significantly to maintaining smooth internal and external communication channels. Duties Operate the organisations switchboard to answer, screen, and direct incoming calls promptly and courteously. Greet visitors professionally and assist with their enquiries or direct them to the appropriate department or personnel. Maintain accurate records of calls received and messages relayed, ensuring confidentiality at all times. Manage internal communications by transferring calls efficiently and providing information as required. Monitor the organisations communication systems for any technical issues and report them to the relevant department. Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments or managing visitor logs when needed. Ensure the reception area remains tidy, welcoming, and professional in appearance. Qualifications Proven experience as a switchboard operator, receptionist, or in a similar customer service role is preferred. Excellent verbal communication skills with a friendly and professional manner. Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask effectively under pressure. Proficiency in using telephone systems, office software, and basic IT equipment. Ability to handle confidential information discreetly and responsibly. Well-presented with good interpersonal skills to interact confidently with visitors and staff alike. Flexibility to work various shifts if required; previous experience in a fast-paced environment is advantageous.
