Job Description
If you’re part of the Environment Agency (EA), you’re part of the solution. Together, we’ll promote sustainable growth, tackle climate change, and secure a better future for everyone.
We’re looking for enthusiastic, highly motivated individuals to join our Permitting teams. During your time with us, you’ll help create a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment.
You’ll assess applications for a range of environmental permitted activities for regulated industry installations across various sectors nationwide.
Environmental Permits define responsibilities and limitations on regulated activities. You’ll perform technical assessments following EA processes and regulatory obligations to protect the environment and communities.
The role requires managing a busy workload, assessing multiple applications simultaneously. You’ll proactively manage your tasks, seek support, and escalate issues as needed to ensure timely, high-quality, risk-based permitting decisions. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for maintaining excellent relationships with customers, including handling difficult conversations and clearly explaining decisions.
Responding to incidents is a core part of our work. All team members will receive training and participate in incident response duties when required. Details on incident response are included in your candidate pack.
We value diversity and inclusion, welcoming applications from all backgrounds and part-time candidates. We also offer a Guaranteed Interview Policy for applicants with disabilities.
The Team
Permitting is crucial to regulation, supporting the economy, people, and wildlife. Our Installations teams handle applications across sectors like food and drink, farming, incineration, chemicals, waste, and landfill, including sites of high public interest and significant infrastructure projects. We work collaboratively across national teams in supportive environments.
Experience and Skills Required
Relevant experience is advantageous, but we also value transferable skills and personal qualities. Experience in environmental permitting and scientific qualifications are preferred; however, a genuine passion for protecting the environment and regulating harmful activities is essential.
