Stirling Dynamics is recruiting for an Engineering Manager for the Simulation and Control capability group. To maintain sustainable growth, the engineering department is undergoing a reorganisation, which has led to the requirement for an Engineering Manager for the Simulation and Control capability. As a member of the senior management team, you will be responsible for the development and management of the simulation and control capability, working alongside other capability managers to plan and provide the necessary skills to meet the various project requirements. The Simulation and Control group provides mathematical model build and detailed analysis across our business areas of Aerospace, eVTOL, Marine and Cockpit Controls. The technical skills covered include: Hydromechanical system modelling Electro-mechanical equipment modelling Multi-body simulation Servo/motor control Vehicle level control The areas for application are extensive and cover: Landing gear systems modelling and design Hydraulic system modelling and design Hydraulic equipment design Electro-mechanical actuator modelling, control and design Flight dynamics modelling and analysis Motor control Flight control system modelling, control and design Flight stability and control law analysis Marine vessel auto-pilots and hover function design The modelling toolsets that the group currently use include: Matlab/Simulink and associated toolboxes ADAMS Amesim As an Engineering Manager you should have industrial experience in some of these above areas and a good appreciation and understanding of the others. You will be expected to balance hands-on technical work and leadership together with the management activities of capability development, resource planning and line management. This role will be based in our Bristol office however as part of our commitment to flexible working, employees are able to work from home for part of the week. Responsible for the Simulation and Control capability, including day to day management and longer-term strategy. Technical project contribution Technical project leadership Allocation of the Simulation and Control Dynamics team members in line with the project requirements Define and manage annual budget needs for internal development of capabilities and processes in line with company objectives Support business development activities. Contribute to project proposals and bid, including technical solution and estimated quantity of work Hold technical check and/or approval for the capability area in line with the delegated authority Support the capability team members to ensure that they have continued development in line with the individual and company needs Recruitment of suitably qualified and skilled engineers to support the growth of the company The successful candidate must currently hold Security Check (SC) clearance or be eligible to obtain SC It is expected that candidates can demonstrate the following: A qualified engineer with a relevant degree Significant industry experience in relevant sectors (ideally aerospace) (>12 years) Demonstrable experience in line management Demonstrable experience in managing engineering teams Demonstrable experience in technical leadership Customer facing, technical, business development experience Personal Characteristics The personal qualities of the jobholder will be key to success in this role.
