Applications are invited for a Medical Secretary in the Renal directorate at Barts Health NHS Trust, based at Royal London Hospital.

The post will suit applicants with significant experience as a medical secretary, audio typing, and responding to patient queries.

The role supports the performance of a core function of the Renal unit. Working closely with senior clinicians and members of the administrative team, you will ensure that clinic letters and other important correspondence are accurately recorded, both electronically and in hard copy, directly facilitating patient care, as well as the management of the patient pathway. The post holder will ensure high levels of patient and clinician satisfaction by being an accessible, customer focussed and knowledgeable point of contact.


Main duties of the job

The purpose of this post is to actively manage the administrative processes of patient pathways, ensuring a smooth and efficient service for patients throughout their treatment by the Trust. Also, to ensure and participate in providing an effective administration service to the multidisciplinary team in the Renal Department at The Royal London Hospital

Key functions include:

Undertaking secretarial functions as part of secretarial team and in line with access targets.

Typing of clinical letters and clinical reports

Booking appointments

Ensuring quality of admin services provided to patients and staff

Resolving problems, escalating where necessary

Taking part in suitable cross cover arrangements

Supporting the Management team / Clinical lead with some Department meetings.

The post holder will be required to work across the Trust's multiple sites to ensure cross-cover is provided.

Person Specification


Experience

* oExperience as a medical secretary in the NHS
* oCompetence with a range of IT packages
* oActs responsibly as a team member and seeks help if necessary
* oAbility to use and maintain resources efficiently and effectively and encourage others to do so
* oAble to monitor quality of own work and others
* oAbility to treat everyone with whom they meet with dignity and respect
* oAbility to treat everyone with whom they meet with dignity and respect
* oWorking knowledge of national access targets
* oA proven record of being able to work within set timeframes working to priorities and deadlines.
* oExperience of working in Renal services


Knowledge

* oExcellent level of knowledge of medical terminology
* oECDL or equivalent experience i.e., experience of a range of IT packages such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint
* oUnderstanding of Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act


Qualifications

* oGCSE Grade C or equivalent in Maths and English
