HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil, and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales. Your role

This role involves working at both the Magistrates and Tribunal Courts in Southampton. Leading your team, you’ll focus on the team’s area of work, making sure that work is prioritised and organised, and that your team is fully skilled to meet objectives. As an effective Team Leader, you recognize the importance of the team’s overall wellbeing and can motivate your team to succeed.

You will contribute to the delivery of operational, performance, and service standard targets and provide statistical data for the management team and judiciary. Your attention to detail and desire for continuous improvement are key to your success. Monitoring and analysing performance areas and trends, conducting ongoing reviews of procedures and work practices, and successfully recommending improvements, navigating change, and managing the implementation of new initiatives and legislation are essential.


Your skills and experience

* Ability to motivate and support your team to deliver excellent customer service and achieve effective performance.
* Experience of working in an administrative role in a customer-focused environment.
* IT proficiency with the ability to learn and adapt to different technologies and software packages.
* Excellent communication, organizational, and prioritization skills.

New recruits to the Civil Service joining MoJ are expected to join at the band minimum.

These operational roles are customer-facing, requiring successful applicants to be office-based to provide HMCTS services to the public.

Standard full-time working hours are 37 hours per week. HMCTS welcomes part-time, flexible, and job-sharing working patterns, where they meet the role's demands and business needs and are agreed prior to appointment. All applications for part-time, flexible, and job-sharing working patterns will be considered in accordance with the MoJ’s Flexible Working policy. As a minimum, the successful candidate must be able to work full working days, including a Friday.


Skilled Worker Visa

From 4 April 2024, the Government increased the salary threshold for Skilled Worker visas. The starting salary for this role falls below the general salary threshold for sponsorship. The Department cannot consider sponsoring you unless you have held a Skilled Worker visa since before 4 April 2024, qualify for relevant tradeable points, or meet other criteria where a lower salary can be considered. If you believe you meet the eligibility criteria and have received a provisional job offer, please raise this during your vetting checks.

If you do not meet the new eligibility criteria for sponsorship, you will need to consider your options for obtaining and/or maintaining your right to work in the UK. Successful applicants must ensure they have and maintain the legal right to live and work in the Civil Service and the UK.

Working Arrangements & Further Information

The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business needs allow. This blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites, and/or from home, but the role can only be worked in the UK. All employees are expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity.

Some roles may not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and are subject to regular review.

Successful candidates will be appointed to the office nearest to their home postcode within the respective pay scale. This may be at an HQ building, Justice Collaboration Centre (JCC), or Justice Satellite Office (JSO). All employees will be expected to spend at least 60% of their working time in an office.

For current MoJ employees, your base location will need to be changed to the nearest viable office to your home postcode, and your pay scale adjusted accordingly.

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions are changing due to Civil Service reform. New staff will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms, or onto 'unmodernised' terms if applicable. Details will be provided if an offer is made.

MoJ candidates on a specialist grade can retain their grade on lateral transfer.

All candidates receiving Mark Time / Pay Protection should review the new policy on promotions on the employee intranet.
