Location: Flexible / Hybrid (with some travel to stores and head office)
About the role
We’re looking for an Internal Audit Lead to join our team on a 15-month fixed term contract. This role is all about helping the business run better — spotting risks early, improving ways of working, supporting teams across our business to do their best work and to get things right the first time, every time.
You’ll work closely with colleagues in stores, distribution centre, and the support office, delivering audits that are practical, forward-facing, and genuinely helpful (there is no box-ticking for the sake of it).
What you’ll be doing
1. Planning and delivering internal audits across our stores, vet's practices and support functions
2. Getting to know how the business really works and identifying what’s going well — and where things could be improved
3. Acting as a trusted business partner to the wider business
4. Reviewing processes and controls, and suggesting clear, sensible recommendations
5. Talking through findings with teams in a collaborative, supportive way
6. Helping shape the internal audit plan by highlighting emerging risks and themes
7. Following up on agreed actions to make sure improvements happen
8. Working alongside wider IA team including the co-source auditors
What we’re looking for
9. Minimum four years of experience in internal audit (either in-house or from practice)
10. Comfortable leading audits and managing your own workload
11. Flexible and adaptable, to meet the evolving needs of the business and a responsive IA plan
12. A practical mindset — you understand how businesses operate and focus on what really matters
13. Confident communicator who can build positive relationships at all levels
14. Organised, curious, and happy working in a fast-paced, multi-site environment
15. A professional qualification (or working towards one) — ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIA, or similar. Pets at Home will not fund any completion of a qualification.
Nice to have (but not essential)
16. Retail, veterinary/clinical or multi-site business experience
17. An interest in using data to make audits more insightful
Why join us?
18. A 15-month FTC offering great exposure across the business
19. Flexible and hybrid working
20. A supportive team that values collaboration, curiosity, and common sense
21. The chance to make a real difference in a growing, pet-loving retail business
We take our inspiration from pets in embracing people from all walks of life, and we value, respect and celebrate difference. We encourage our people to be their best selves so that we can create a better world for Pets, our Planet, and People. Our ambition is to reflect the diversity of the communities we operate in, and we are intentional in addressing and removing barriers to create opportunities for the exceptional talent and potential in our communities. Even if your skills and experience don’t perfectly align, if you think you can make a unique contribution through your values and behaviours, we want to hear from you.
