This role is based in Sydney, Australia.
The School of Physics at UNSW is a leading physics school in Australia, offering undergraduate and postgraduate research programs. The astrophysics group, led by Prof Dennis Stello, focuses on areas like exoplanets, stellar evolution, galactic archaeology, and cosmology. For more information, visit www.physics.unsw.edu.au.
About the Role
* Level A – ($110k – $117k) + 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
* Fixed term for 2.5 years, with a possible 6-month extension based on funding and performance
* Full-time (35 hours per week)
This role reports to Professor Dennis Stello and has no direct reports.
Responsibilities
* Conduct research on asteroseismology, especially solar-like oscillations, using data from missions like Kepler, K2, TESS, Roman, Gaia, and ground-based sources.
* Develop and utilize software tools for analyzing large multi-dimensional datasets.
* Publish research findings in leading scientific journals.
* Present research at conferences and seminars.
* Collaborate with team members and contribute independently.
* Mentor graduate and Honours students.
* Adhere to the university’s Code of Conduct and safety policies.
Candidate Requirements
* PhD in Astrophysics, specializing in stellar astrophysics and asteroseismology.
* Experience in data analysis and stellar modeling related to solar-like oscillations and multi-source data integration.
* Proven ability to conduct independent research and publish internationally.
* Strong research record with conference presentations and publications.
* Effective team player and communicator.
* Experience in supervising research students.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Commitment to UNSW’s values and policies.
* Understanding of health and safety responsibilities.
