Overview
Primary SEND Teaching Assistant — Location: Sherborne, Dorset. Contract: Full-time, Monday to Friday. Pay: £89–£95 per day. Start Date: September 2025.
Responsibilities
* Provide targeted support to pupils with a range of SEND, with a particular focus on trauma and attachment needs.
* Work collaboratively with the class teacher to deliver and adapt individual learning and support plans.
* Create a safe, nurturing, and supportive classroom environment that promotes engagement and learning.
* Employ a range of strategies to support communication, learning, and behaviour management.
* Encourage positive social interaction and participation in class and school activities.
* Maintain accurate records of pupil progress, achievements, and areas for development.
* Apply de-escalation techniques and behaviour management strategies sensitively and effectively.
* Assist in the preparation of learning resources tailored to individual needs.
* Engage in professional development opportunities, particularly in trauma and attachment approaches.
Candidate requirements
* Previous experience of working with children in an educational setting, ideally with SEND.
* Understanding of trauma and attachment and their impact on learning and behaviour.
* Relevant qualifications (NVQ Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent) are desirable but not essential.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
* Patience, empathy, and resilience, with a strong commitment to supporting children’s wellbeing and progress.
* A proactive and adaptable approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* An Enhanced DBS certificate on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
