You’ll be working for a Tier 1 highways contractor delivering inspection and maintenance services across the local highway network. The organisation operates at scale, with established systems, clear processes and long‑term contracts, providing a stable pipeline of work and strong site support.
Your new role
As a Highways Safety Inspector, you’ll be responsible for inspecting the highway network and identifying safety issues to help keep road users safe.
You’ll be involved in:
1. Carrying out highway safety inspections (walked, driven and someputer‑based).
2. Identifying and recording defects across roads, footways and other highway assets.
3. Raising jobs for repairs and following them through the system.
4. Reviewing and closing customer enquiries linked to inspections.
5. Supporting enforcement activity where required, including issuing notices.
6. Providing inspection records to support claims and attending court if needed.
7. Working with maintenance, street works and inspection teams.
8. Attending site visits and team meetings as required.What you'll need to succeed
9. Previous experience in highway inspections or a similar highways role.
10. A good understanding ofmon highway defects and safety risks.
11. Ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
12. Knowledge of the local road network would be an advantage.
13. Lantra and/or NRSWA qualifications
14. A full UK driving licence is essential.
