Job Summary
Senior Healthcare Support Worker required to join the fast‑paced Trauma and Orthopaedic ward at Torbay Hospital. Responsibilities include supporting patients’ clinical care and ensuring the highest achievable standard of care following assessments.
Main Duties
* Work clinically to ensure safety and quality of care under indirect supervision of a registered nurse/practitioner.
* Perform clinical tasks such as cannulation, venepuncture, wound care, ECGs, nutrition and hydration monitoring, vital‑sign assessment, safeguarding referrals, documentation and communication.
* Support and collaborate with colleagues during shifts, liaise with the multidisciplinary team, aid service development and participate in ward projects.
* Follow Trust policies and protocols to maintain safety.

Contract: Permanent
Working pattern: Part‑time
Band: Band 3
Salary: £24,937 to £26,598 per annum (pro‑rata)

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications and Training
* NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent qualification/experience.
* Basic computer/keyboard skills.
* Fine motor skills for venepuncture, phlebotomy, and other clinical tasks.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to prioritise, organise work and manage under pressure.
* Record‑keeping competency in handwritten and electronic records.
* Empathy, sensitivity and adaptability to communication style.
* Stress management and support at times of emotional distress.
* Willingness to undertake new skills and training.
* Teamworking or independent working skills.
* Adaptability, reliability and punctuality.
* Commitment to diversity and equality policies.
Desirable Qualifications
* Care certificate.
* English & Mathematics at GCSE grade A‑C or level 2 functional skills.
* Experience or knowledge of complex care needs, safeguarding children & adults, domestic abuse and mental health.
* Healthcare competencies appropriate to the area of work.
