Our client, a leading specialist within the ground engineering sector, is seeking an experienced Senior
Estimator to join their piling division. This is a key position responsible for leading the preparation of
complex tenders and ensuring commercially successful project delivery from enquiry through to
handover.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in maximising commercial opportunities, developing
client relationships, and supporting the wider work-winning function. This role will involve close
collaboration with internal teams, clients, and external consultants, as well as mentoring junior
estimating staff.
Senior Estimator Job Responsibilities
* Preparing detailed estimates and tender submissions in line with enquiry documentation and
company procedures
* Leading bid strategies in collaboration with the Bid Manager from early engagement stages
* Producing major prime cost estimates, including cost planning and preliminary pricing
* Carrying out technical appraisals and design calculations to support tender submissions
* Proposing value-engineered and sustainable solutions to maximise project opportunities
* Liaising with clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders throughout the tender process
* Managing the full lifecycle of tenders, from initial enquiry through to award and handover
* Ensuring technical and contractual completeness prior to project handover to operations
teams
* Supporting and mentoring junior estimating staff
* Promoting the business within the industry and identifying cross-selling opportunities
* Ensuring all work complies with company IMS systems for Quality, Health & Safety, and
Environmental standards
Senior Estimator Job Requirements
* HNC / Degree in Construction, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline
* Progression towards or membership of a recognised professional body (e.g. RICS, CIOB,
ICE)
* Proven experience in estimating within civil engineering, piling, or ground engineering sectors
* Strong knowledge of pricing, cost planning, and tendering procedures
* Experience managing complex or multi-discipline tenders through to completion
* Excellent understanding of bid management and estimating processes
* Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
* High level of accuracy and attention to detail
* Organised, proactive, and able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
* Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels
* Team-oriented with a positive, "can-do" attitude
