Main duties of the job
We are seeking a highly motivated and proactive individual to fulfil the role of Admin Booking Clerk with-in our busy TRC Team Your job role will mean that you will build a good working relationship with the Consultants, the rest of the Admin Team and Nursing staff.
You will need good communications skills as you will be dealing with the patients by phone, email and face to face.
The successful candidate will be joining the TRC Team at Southampton General Hospital.
Unfortunately there is no flexibility to consider a job share or part time hours. The post holder will be required to work Monday – Friday between the hours of 8am and 5pm (you may be required to work an evening or weekend with prior notice).

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
To provide an excellent customer service to patients, relatives/carers and to external agencies.
To provide and maintain clinical utilisation by the contact and confirmation of appointments with patients
To book and highlight all available clinical
To work in a Speciality Administration Team (SAT) and provide cross-cover for other staff across the Care Group to ensure a consistent and
Ensure adherence to the Patient Administration standard operating procedures at all times, highlighting to a Team Leader any situations where this is not achievable.
Ensure that personal ESR information including annual leave is kept up to date.
Cover a range of shift patterns and sites as required by the service and its patients, which may include both early and late shifts and occasional weekend working.
Provide cross-cover for other staff across the Care Group to ensure a consistent and effective service is maintained at all times.
Attend any meetings relevant to the SAT role.
General administrative duties for the department such as filing, photocopying and distribution of mail.
Register referrals and make arrangements for clinical grading.
Arrange inpatient appointments, confirming, cancelling and changing appointments as necessary for both pre-assessment and admission.
Create, maintain and make additions to waiting lists.
Ensure patients are communicated with effectively in relation to their appointments/admission via email, phone or letter.
Arrange transport and translation services where necessary.
Ensure appointments/admissions are in line with the Trust's access policy, highlighting issues and taking corrective action where necessary.
Good standard of secondary education with literacy and numeracy skills demonstrable to GCSE pass level or equivalent standard.
RSA 2 word processing/typing or equivalent experience.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word.
Courses / further study attended to demonstrate evidence of personal development
Knowledge of medical terminology Administrative and organisational experience
Excellent telephone / communication skills.

Essential criteria
Good standard of education with literacy and numeracy skills to GCSE pass level 4-9 or equivalent standard
NVQ 2 diploma or equivalent experience
Experience of working in a customer led environment
Competent in the use of Microsoft Office packages
Evidence of computer literacy
Desirable criteria
Courses/further study attended to demonstrate evidence of personal development
Proficient in the use of hospital computerised patient systems
Call handling experience
