Job Summary
Principal Practitioner Dysphagia Speech and Language Therapist – Permanent, Part Time – 22.50 hours per week. Based in Acorn Primary Healthcare Centre, Accrington. Salary: Band 8a (£55,690 to £62,682 per annum pro rata). Location and hours are subject to the needs of the service.
Are you an experienced Speech & Language Therapist with specialist skills in eating, drinking and swallowing, looking to develop clinical and leadership skills? This highly specialist community role sits within our Children’s Therapy Service as part of service redesign. An exciting clinical leadership opportunity awaits a suitably qualified, registered and experienced SLT to develop expertise in paediatric dysphagia, particularly in the early years, and to contribute to system-wide improvements in Pennine Lancashire.
Key duties include clinical leadership to SLT staff in the EDS role, contributing to clinical care pathways, developing evidence-based practice, and working with Commissioners and System Partners on programmes of change. The postholder will support the day-to-day management of SLT staff, provide supervision and training, support student placements, and meet travel requirements for the role.
Responsibilities
* Provide professional and clinical leadership to Speech & Language Therapy staff within the EDS role, in collaboration with the Clinical Lead for EDS.
* Develop and implement clinical care pathways and supervise professional practice, including training needs assessment and delivery of training.
* Lead on evidence-based practice, current treatment approaches, referrals, and system pathways.
* Support the Pennine Lancashire service changes and continuous improvement projects.
* Work in partnership with the Team Coordinator and wider leadership team; contribute to service design and delivery for paediatric dysphagia.
* Support student placements and meet travel requirements as part of the post.
Qualifications
* Professional Degree or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy
* Current Professional Registration with HCPC
* Validated/nationally recognised postgraduate advanced competencies in the management of dysphagia
Knowledge
* Understanding of clinical governance framework and implications for practice, including audit and research governance
* Extensive knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools for children with diverse needs
* Extensive knowledge of therapy techniques and programmes for children with diverse needs
Experience
* Recent and relevant postgraduate experience in the specialist field of practice
* Multidisciplinary/multi-agency collaborative working
* Extensive experience of working with children with complex needs and their families in community settings
