Hampton Senior High School (SHS) are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants to join their Specialist Learning Program : Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Learning Support Program for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term 4, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role

Suitable applicants will ideally have considerable interest in learning evidence-based approaches to working with students with a range of special needs, in particular ASD, combined with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with teachers and other education assistants.

In collaboration with teachers, suitable applicants will support teachers to implement programs and pedagogy to meet the needs of students with special needs to assist teachers in the Specialised Learning Program - ASD or in mainstream classes. Facilitating small groups of students in our Focus Literacy and Numeracy classes is also an important part of the role, using explicit teaching programs such as MacqLit or Corrective Reading.

Under limited direction, education assistants will apply individualised programs that improve academic engagement, organisational skills, social thinking, peer relationships and self-regulation skills.

Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and / or physiotherapy programs. Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents. Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
