Rate of Pay: £34.06 - £43.65 per hour
Summary:
The Technical Officer (Disabled Facilities Grants) will provide specialist technical advice and support to older, disabled, or vulnerable residents wishing to adapt, repair, or improve their homes. The role involves assessing properties, preparing schedules of works, ensuring compliance with building regulations, monitoring contractor works, and supporting the efficient delivery of Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs) and other financial assistance programs. This position requires excellent technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with clients, contractors, landlords, and internal teams.
Responsibilities:
* Conduct home visits to provide advice, support, and updates at every stage of the case.
* Undertake on-site feasibility studies to assess the suitability of properties for adaptations and propose alternatives where necessary.
* Carry out detailed property surveys to ensure proposed works are feasible, practical, and meet legislative and policy requirements.
* Produce scale drawings of existing and proposed layouts and prepare detailed schedules of works for grant applications.
* Review and quality check drawings and technical specifications from contractors or other professionals, highlighting and resolving errors.
Requirements:
* Relevant technical qualification in Building Surveying, Construction, Architecture, or a related field.
* Professional certification or eligibility in housing, building control, or related technical disciplines is desirable.
* Experience in property surveys, building inspections, or similar technical roles.
* Knowledge of building regulations, planning procedures, and housing adaptation legislation.
* Experience preparing specifications, schedules of works, or cost estimates.
* Experience in project monitoring and liaising with contractors, clients, and external agencies.
* Proven ability to work with vulnerable clients and provide sensitive, person-centered advice.
* Competence in using ICT systems and databases for record-keeping and reporting.
