 
        
        Thedepartment of Neurosciences at Leeds General Infirmary are looking for 3 fulltime Senior Medical Secretary's to support the surgical services, includingSpinal Surgery and Pain Management.
Thehours are 37.5 hours a week Monday to Friday, with the opportunity for hybridwork once training is complete and dependant on current Business needs. Youwill be working with a supportive team in a fast paced and challengingdepartment with excellent opportunities for development and training.
Main duties of the job
Thepost holder will provide a comprehensive medical secretarial service to theConsultant and the medical team (CMT). They will support and administerprocesses to sustain the Consultants practice through administrativeprotocols, processes, and procedures in line with service needs. They must beable to communicate sensitively and effectively with a wide range of peopleincluding patients, medical staff, and colleagues. The secretary may berequired to cover for colleagues during absence and work flexible hours whennecessary.

About us
TheNeurosciences surgical service comprises of Neurosurgery, Spinal Surgery andPain Management. We have 5 elective theatres and 2 acute theatres on the LGIsite providing theatre capacity for adult and paediatric spinal surgery andadult cranial surgery. In addition to elective theatres at Chapel AllertonHospital. The service also uses operating capacity at a number of other NHShospitals and independent sector providers in the West Yorkshire region.There are up to 20 theatre lists running each week within the service. Thereare currently 25 consultant surgeons working within the service.
Thepost holder will develop and maintain close working relationships with theconsultants, the wider directorate clinical teams, the neurosciencesmanagement team, the wider neurosciences administration team and externalorganisations.

Job responsibilities
PRINCIPALDUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Work closely with the consultantsand their team, clerical, secretarial and other Trust staff to ensure thedelivery of a co-ordinated and consistent operational management service.
Drafting standard clinical letterson behalf of Consultants prior to checking and signing by the relevantConsultant.
Provide and receive routineinformation requiring tact/provision of sensitive information.
Exchange information with patientsand staff for appointments, admissions, and meetings verbally, in person andin written format.
Filing correspondence and resultsof tests/investigations in a timely manner and liaising with the Consultantswith reference to these results.
Supporting the consultants in theirwider role e.g., medical committees, research activities, producingpublications, in role of Regional Adviser etc.
Compiling and collating data fromvarious sources, following up contributions to publications etc. includingassembling information in an appropriate format for the Consultants.
Creating and maintainingappropriate record systems.
Using a range of IT skills tosupport the clinical work of the consultant e.g., development of databasesand spreadsheets, inputting and reporting from these on a regular basis andpreparation of power point presentations.
Provide training and support toclerical or trainee staff and to new/temporary staff, checking their work andallocating work to ensure the most urgent work is given priority.
Liaising with patients, generalpractitioners, and hospital staff.
Respond to written and telephoneenquiries in a polite and helpful manner, prioritising messages and takingresponsibility for any follow-up action.
Work as part of the administrationteam and, when necessary, provide interdepartmental cover, where appropriateand in discussion with the line manager.
