Healthcare Assistant in General Practice
The purpose of the post is to assist the GPs and nurse team in delivering safe, high-quality primary care services to the practice population. The post holder will undertake delegated tasks under indirect supervision of the nursing team, working within clear parameters and accountability lines after appropriate training and competence assessment.
Job Responsibilities/Principal Duties:
1. Assist in the delivery of primary healthcare interventions and care efficiently and effectively under indirect supervision.
2. Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during, and after patient care interventions.
3. Monitor and order stock levels and equipment, ensuring standards of infection control and safety are maintained.
4. Act as a chaperone as required/instructed.
5. Maintain accurate and legible patient records in line with organisational requirements, including paper and electronic records.
6. Ensure confidentiality, privacy, dignity, and respect for patients, in accordance with organisational policy.
7. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to promote integrated pathways of care.
8. Communicate effectively with patients, carers, and team members.
9. Prioritize and complete daily work efficiently.
10. Report complaints or incidents to the Lead Nurse or Practice Manager per organisational policy.
11. Ensure clinical practice is safe, effective, and within competence boundaries, acknowledging limitations.
Clinical Care Delivery:
Undertake and record activities such as urinalysis, specimen preparation, vital signs measurement, limb measurements, ECGs, near-patient testing, spirometry, venous blood sampling, and assist in minor surgical procedures, under supervision and within training.
Other Tasks:
Support with clinical supplies management, participate in quality improvement activities, attend meetings, and contribute to practice development.
Personal/Professional Development:
Complete mandatory and skills-specific training, inform managers of any limitations, and participate in team meetings.
