Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Catering Supervisor to work within the RVI Catering Department, awarded Team of the Year 2022.
The role is based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary Catering Department, working 37.5 hours per week, across 5 days over 7 on a rotational roster, including 2 weekends out of 3. You will be part of a small supervisory team under the guidance of a Senior Supervisor, ensuring smooth department operations. Working hours are between 6:00 am and 2:00 pm, and 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm on a 3-week rotational schedule.

Main duties of the job
Your main responsibilities will include:
1. Supervising a catering team of up to 70 staff.
2. Facilitating communication between catering, wards, and departments.
3. Processing menus through the Catering system and ensuring they are displayed in wards.
4. Managing daily worksheets, rosters, overtime, holidays, and sickness.
5. Using the in-house allocation system for pay and holiday management.
6. Adhering to the department's HACCP system.
7. Ensuring compliance with health and hygiene regulations.
8. Monitoring patient food belts to maintain quality, presentation, and correct food service.
9. Interacting effectively with ward staff.
10. Optimizing resource use, staffing, and additional hours.
11. Conducting staff appraisals, departmental inductions, and undertaking risk assessments, moving and handling, and first aid training.
12. Collaborating with the Diet Chef to meet patients' dietary needs and ensure allergen information accuracy.
Knowledge and experience with various cooking methods are advantageous, along with qualifications such as City & Guilds 706/2 or NVQ Level 3 in Food Preparation, Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification, or relevant large-scale catering experience.
This supervisory role emphasizes food hygiene, safety standards, quality control, and management responsibilities during food production and service shifts.
